In a 10-page decision, the Nassau County Supreme Court rejected the doctor’s request that it should consider his donated kidney as an item of property to be valued in the divorce suit, according to Dawnell Batista’s lawyer, Douglas Rothkopf.

The court said “marital property” covers a lot of things, but human tissues or organs aren’t any of them, according to the decision handed down Wednesday. It also said that not only was Richard Batista’s attempt to extort money from his wife for the kidney he donated legally unsound, but it could expose him to criminal prosecution.

We don't know what led to this divorce. From the bits of information here we tend to feel rage and somehow feel unjust on his behalf but we are totally unaware if there was verbal or physical violance in their marriage. Maybe he felt like he saved the woman's life so now she has to be so grateful that she should act like a slave around him, etc. I really would like to learn more though, just for personal interest and curiosity on human behavior.

I don't think he understands what 'donate' means

One important thing I learned after spending 13 years with my ex-wife is that under no circumstances should you do anything irreversible for love. Women simply get bored of us when we become what they say they're looking for in a guy, so don't do irreversible things just to please her. Only do it if you really want to, like having a child.

Oh, so with the donation of his kidney she lost the right to file for a divorce? Interesting
